On February 5, 2024, the caretaker government of Punjab, led by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, announced the Punjab Weapons License Online Application Portal 2024 (PALMS), in a significant move towards transparency and anti-corruption in the arms licensing process. This initiative, resulting from a collaboration between the Provincial Home Department and NADRA, enables online renewal and transfer of weapons licenses, and even the possibility of doorstep delivery of licenses. The Chief Minister, acknowledging the efforts of officials including Additional Secretary Farwa Aamir and Home Secretary Main Shakeel Ahmed, launched the PALMS portal, which marks a key step in modernizing and streamlining arms license management in Punjab.
Mohsin Naqvi, the Chief of Staff for Punjab’s interim government, unveiled the new Punjab Arms License Management System designed to oversee the administration of arms licenses in the region. The system’s implementation, resulting from a collaborative agreement between Punjab’s Interior Ministry and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), enables the issuance and renewal of arms licenses through an online portal. Additionally, the platform facilitates the transfer of licenses to different individuals.
